This is my final project from Art 4, our mixed media project. Mixed media is something that i really enjoy, since it is relaxing, requires little thinking, fun, and allows you to not be super technical, which are all things I really like. There wasn't much planning put into it since I just decided on warm colors, and found everything in the classroom that I could add to the piece, then used it in the best way I thought it would work. I chose to use warm colors as my color scheme because I found the most diverse set of items to add to my paper in that range, so I thought it would look the best. Also, when I did my last mixed media project, I used a wide range of blues and purples so I wanted to do something a little different.
This project was very simple for me and took only a few days. I worked faster than I normally do with other projects, which allowed me to do up to 4 or 5 layers in some areas, which I think really added to the piece. I started the project first by doing a whole, thick, layer of tissue paper. Then, I began to add some 3d objects to help create some variation in the piece. After, I started layering randomly tissue paper or other objects into my piece to create a more randomized and less structiured look for the piece, which I really liked. I struggled the most with finding more semi-flat 3D objects to help add texture to the piece, so instead i fluffed up tissue paper to help give some texture to my piece.
I really enjoyed mixed media this time and the time before for all the reasons I already mentioned, but, I also think it could have had better areas with more defined lines and more variation in shapes and sizes of the tissue paper I used and other things I added, like the flower. Many of my objects were very similar in size, relatively small, which I think i could've done a better job at preventing. Next time I do a mixed media project, I want to take it a step up, to where I want to use random color schemes and somehow create an image, like a portrait for example, to help myself grow with the medium since I liked it so much. I definitely will use my cooler colors such as blues for the lowlights and my warmer colors for the highlights to create an interesting contrast for the piece!
