I used the techniques of random brush strokes and dotting on the canvas during the making of the project. I gained experience with oils since this was my first time using them. I learned how it is such a tedious and long process for the oil paints to dry, but they blend very well on the canvas. For the shadows between the hexagon parts of the pineapple I used random line strokes of dark blue to show the lowlights, while for the uplifted parts I dotted on a heavy amount of yellow paint to add a 3-dimensional effect.
Before making this pineapple I googled and went on Pinterest looking for reference images of pineapples that I liked and thought had a good composition for the painting. Afterwards, I drew a rough sketch of the outline of the pineapple, leaving out the details. Then I did a wash of red acrylic paint over where my pineapple was going to go, with a wash of green where I planned to put my red background, which helps the colors appear more vibrant in the piece. Before I could start painting I had to make sure I sketched the details of the leaves and pineapple. Once I was done with that I was able to start painting and work on finishing the piece. I was impressed with myself for it being my first time. I would like to continue to work on combining realism with abstract colors in the future when working with oils, while also finding ways to later ensure I communicate with forms of movement, which my pineapple was lacking.
