This is my chalk leaf. I used my own ideas by changing the leaf to be cool colors like purple and blue. I took my original shape idea from a leaf I found outside the classroom, but I made it a variety of dark colors rather than just an earthy green all over. I also got my vein structure idea from the leaf stem, but made the lines more curved rather than straight like the real leaf was.
I developed my art making skills in this project as well. I learned how to use chalk better since I have never used chalk on a project before. I learned how to work with chalk and keep colors apparent by smoothing them out with your finger lightly, or make the color look faded by spreading with your finger more generously. I was not expecting to be able to blend chalk colors well but I actually really liked how the final project turned out and am glad it ended up looking good with the different shades and colors.
Finally, I chose to reflect on my project. About halfway through the project when I finished getting my base colors done to the leaf, I realized I should have done the greens and value of the leafs veins after I colored in the whole leaf. This was because the blues needed to show where the value was still but it was supposed to look more like an undertone, so I had to redo my value to the veins at the end. Before I did the leaf I decided to add yellow and green for my veins just so that they would be more apparent instead of it being blue or purple also and barely showing against the leaf. I wanted the veins to show up really well so I chose a color that would be lighter than the base color of my leaf.
