To begin this project, I started brainstorming about 10 ideas of objects that were reflective of not only light/other objects, but of who I am as a person. My favorite idea was this jewelry photo i decided to take of my favorite ring and necklace that I wear each day, given to me by my dad and boyfriend. I sketched about 3 different compositions of different angles of the two and decided on an up close image because i could add in more details and colors to make it more interesting colors besides just greys and golds. I practiced drawing the heart shapes to the rings many different times with just pencil to find out how to distort the shape of the heart design correctly to maintain the round shaping to the ring. I also practiced the texture of the rock in the necklace many times by testing different colors and skattering them within a small range of construction paper to see which collection of colors looked the most realistic. I found the shading and texture of the ring the hardest to create in this project. It was very hard to add so many colors and still keep the colors to seem smooth, as well as how I found it challenging to distort the hearts correctly as I mentioned above. But even though I found the ring harder than the necklace to create, I believe the colors of the ring made it much more interesting and added more to the piece than I was able to do with the necklace.
This project allowed me to learn more about using abstract colors to add values to my pieces. The use of purples and blues in the shadows of the ring really added to my piece and made the concept much more interesting. But, I need to improve on textures. I failed at smoothing out pieces of the ring and necklace, as well as at creating the jagged edges of the rock within the necklace. I definitely need more practice on my uses of texures with prisma colors. But, since I really enjoyed the process of working with them, I am inspired to make more Prisma pieces, and continue my growth with them. I would definitely decide next time to instead add more interesting colors to the lights of the silver and rocks instead of just the shadows, as well as with the shadows remebering to NOT BE AFRAID OF THE DARK, as I definitely was in some areas of my piece.
