Question 1
In this Mixed Media project I learned how to use gel medium. It's like this crazy super glue that's invisible when it dries and can glue things to eachother and be strong. I learned how to use ribbon, balloon strips, bubble wrap, paint, wrappers, cards, and really anything that was blue or gold basically to my project. I learned that if you want something on the project then anything could get on there with enough gel medium on both sides. I loved how it turned out using a random style and just going with the flow of the theme.
After any additions or layers I was unsure about I'd ask the people sitting around me for their opinion on what I should add next out of the things I had. I also would ask if there were areas heavy on a color or could use more/different materials to help make my project look better. I used my parents for inspiration to my theme. They both went to UCLA and the school's colors are blue and gold so I used anything I found in my wallet or in class for the project.
At the beginning I had an issue with the first layer of tissue paper. The base I chose was grey so I realized after already starting that I needed to do a white layer first to not tint the project. I also had an issue w the silver gem ribbon where I couldn't get the gel medium to cause it to stick at first. What I decided to do was apply a ton of gel medium underneath and let it dry, then I loaded gel medium again on the sides and top to help it stick and now it's really strong on the project. Question 2
Question 2
I think my most successful project was my chalk project of a leaf. I found it very easy to apply techniques and to create a unique image. The theme was nature but i took a surrealistic turn on the project theme and used unrealistic leaf colors. To make this leaf, i originally did 3 practice leaves. the first one was a small one to work on detail with chalk pencils. The other two were on full sized chalk paper to practice a real sized one to getting the shape and blending right before making the final. I feel good about my choice to use a very large black paper for my leaf so i could bring out highlights and lowlights. Choosing to use chalk was a bit hard considering it's so large, causing a lot of smudging but overall it came out well anyways. (photo from chalk leaf final blog.
